Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Starting from the  this past decades , the use of  magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners has started to grow more and more extremely; this is because doctors  are much more confident  with the result of  MRI.  This magnetic resonance imaging  helps them diagnose  brain tumors, multiple sclerosis,  tendonitis, torn ligaments,  and other  types of cancer in a more accurate way.  An MRI scan is the best and right way to look inside the human body without opening it.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)  is similar to a  CT scanner  as  it generate  cross-sectional images of the human body.   However, MRI does not use  ionizing radiation (x-rays); instead,  MR imaging uses a radio frequency or waves ,  strong magnetic field,  and a computer to generate detailed images  of   bones,  organs, soft tissues and technically all other internal body parts. The images can then be seen on a   monitor, can be  transmitted  on  a  CD or printed on  a piece of  paper.

A patient who prepares  to undergo this type of  exam  must wear a medical  gown or can be allowed to wear  their  own clothing as long as it is loose-fitting and has no metal parts.  When it comes to eating and drinking before an MRI examination, advise may vary with the type of MRI  exam  and also with the facility.

Some may be ask to  fast for more than eight  hours. But unless you are told otherwise, you can follow whatever  eating routine you have. Some past and present conditions, such as severe kidney disease may restrict   the purpose of  the MRI exam. The radiologist  should be aware of  any serious health problems or if  a patient has a recent  surgery.   If there is a history of those   medical  problems or  kidney diseases , it  is necessary to have  a blood test to conclude  whether the kidneys are functioning well.

Although, MRI has been used  since the  the 80s with no reports of any bad effects on pregnant women and their babies, Women should always inform their  technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant. Because the pregnant women  and her baby will be expose to a strong magnetic field, pregnant women is advise  not to  have this exam unless otherwise  a great   benefit from the MRI is needed. But Magnetic resonance imaging is a very safe procedure. The powerful  magnetic field itself does not  really hurt people, unless they have  some  metal implanted in them. The magnetic field will  cause   metal to move, which ofcourse, could potentially cause an injury.

After which a patient was done being examine, A radiologist, a  practitioner educated and trained to  interpret radiology examinations, will analyze the resulting images and send a signed report to your physician, who will share the results with you.

Furthermore, let’s thanks Paul Lauterbur of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Sir Peter Mansfield of the University of Nottingham  who discover magnetic resonance imaging and later one  were awarded the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Great post I’m a writer my self but for natural product like anyways. Is MRI safety for the practitioners? I read about one incident that one died from one MRI tragedy as the fe was caught by the strong magnet. They say some clutter was found on the part of the MRI that might cause the incident and the rom was extremely small for the operation.

I think the main person responsible for this invention is Raymond V. Damadian. He should be getting all this Nobel Prize.also the person who invented the they all need to be acknowledge .

MRI is really expensive in Asia. I can say that almost every laboratory test and scan are expensive in third world country hope it has some kind of website that estimates jus like that would be cool.

MarkSer,

In 1970, Dr. Damadian  made the discovery which became the basis for magnetic resonance then later on  build the first MR scanner. In 1978, he established FONAR, an MRI manufacturing company(the first ever). His company begun building  MRI as a whole-body scanner in 1980.I know this for a fact cause I have wrote this on one of my articles.

MRI is better than CT scan because patient will no longer get expose on Radioactive environment. However, person with  metallic parts planted on their bodies will never get this benefit.Saw this on a report using my new sad but hope they could do something about it.

I have seen my MRI result and I compared it with  my ct scan and xray results in the past andI was surprise how detailed and clear it is.Its very effective just like  I was one of those person who was able to benefit on this machine.

Magnetic resonance imaging is a very new technology, but it is getting worldwide applause and citation. I heard there are two groups who have been claiming some recognition for it.had written some of the advantage of this on my blog about Eczema Treatment and other technology stuff.

My mom just recently had a surgery. At we are glad that the tumor growing inside her breast was detected through MRI. We thought that it could have been a danger for her if we haven’t found it.

Isn’t it interesting, how this Nobel prize for MRI controversy emerge. But the  issue is that Damadian put a human body into magnetic field, aligned the protons and then got a MR image, Apparently, the method being use was different from one use by the two Nobel prize winners.

GMarco,

I think the history for the discovery  of MRI  should be detailed back from the discovery of proton and , lol. But the thing with proton is, the discovery was not that clear.

I got some  shoulder injury I got from playing football. The MRI that the doctor shows me that a tear of the latissimus dorsi and teres major tendons. Don’t know those terms but I did see what he meant.

JonathanKline,

In the early years of medical imaging, radiologists used only x-rays to image the body. Now they use MRI, much better much detailed. This is really a great discovery as well as the also.

In sports where a  bat or  tennis racquet  is  swung, swinging motion that accompanies baseball, tennis & golf  are  known causes of this injury. Thanks to MRI all of this are detected then cured.now I can go back to managing my business.

There is a newer MRI units that have a more open design. This is good for  patients   that are suffering from claustrophobia

JessicaMid,

The thing I don’t like about MRI is when certain MRI scanners operate – they may produce loud noises. This is annoying  but earplugs or headphones is given for  protection.

Quency,

MRI is really beneficial. The most important thing for the patient to do is to just to relax make sure to wear without any metal on it and lie still.

Darline,
November 21, 2010

MRi exam is very safe. After the exam, you have no restrictions  and can go about your or normal activities.

Tridy87,

I have a dental fillings or braces, I think I will not be allowed to undergo MRI, however a year after, my dentist will take this off me. I can proceed with my examination but this is quite a long wait. for now will just sit back and relax do swimming with my new and have a vacation.

AngelBoul,

The MRI procedure is really safe have seen it on an add for and its easy for us patients. I had one when I got into a  car accident. The exam was fast and comfy for me

I use to hear MRI in tv shows. WHat does it stand for??

Janah23,
November 21, 2010

MRI is magnetic resonance imaging. It is a scanner usually used in hospitals.I have seen one on a local clinic near a downtown my are.

Christian,
November 21, 2010

WHat does this scanner do?? And is it accurate??I think I have read something about this on a blog name.

Jonathan,
November 21, 2010

MRI helps doctors to diagnose an illness.  and Yes, it is really accurate.

Lorrie,
November 23, 2010

WHat kinds of illnesses does it detect?? I bet there are a lots of it.

Allan ,
November 23, 2010

The illnesses that MRI’s detect are brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, tendinitis, torn ligaments and other types of cancers. I think it’s a doctor’s best friend.

Penelope,

MRI is the best way to look inside a human body without opening it . IT is really an amazing invention.

GUy,
November 23, 2010

The answer to your question is  no. x-rays use ionizing radiation while MRI uses radio frequency of waves.

Allie,
November 23, 2010

MRI provides detailed images of bones, organs, soft tissues and technically all the other internal body parts. We can see the images on a monitor.

Nieva,
November 25, 2010

Yes, and the images can also be transferred in a CD of printed in a piece of paper. It is so amazing and really helpful.

Is MRI harmful for pregnant women?Just like  ? MY wife is pregnant and I just want to be informed.

Annabelle,
November 25, 2010

Although there are no reports of  bad effects of MRI to pregnant women, I think you should still inform the technologist. It is also advised pregnant women to not have this kind of exam unless necessary.

Annabelle,
November 25, 2010

the radiologist will analyze the resulting images. and afterwards give it to your physician who will tell the results to you. All you need to do is lay down on a  and relax

Clinton,

I heard that if you metal of some sort in your body, MRI will be painful. Is this true??

JOzef ,
November 25, 2010

When I had an accident and my doctor required me to have an MRI,I was so scared. I was scared of the tube they put you in.did take a picture out of it and put it to my for me to remind my self what I have been through.

Tyrone,
November 25, 2010

I think so earth4energy review. The magnetic field will cause metal to move. It may also cause injury.

Erik ,
November 25, 2010

Some of us can’t afford to have an MRI even if it is necessary. IT is just too expensive. I better pump up my sale on my business.

Fernando,
November 25, 2010

If someone is having an MRI, i always think that the person is really sick. I just watch too much tv better I watch  i guess.

Jose,
November 25, 2010

The MRI is a great invention. Technologies like now a days are continuing to evolve.

Zenny,

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners is like the best ever medical equipment being invented. Helps a lot of people!

Junelo ,
November 27, 2010

Just some heads up guys, if you and someone you know is pregnant, don’t try to do this test. This is not good for the baby, that’s what I heard.

Jaypee ,
November 27, 2010

I am scared of this things. Hospitals should educate people and say this are safe just like. I heard a lot of rumors and I don’t know if it is true.

Pnkan,
November 27, 2010

I ask several technicians about MRI. They said this test is the safest of all just like, considering you will never be expose to radiation again.

Edward,
November 28, 2010

How should I prepare for the procedure? Does it take a long time to finish one test?

Stewart,
November 28, 2010

I don’t think it is that long. Depending on the purpose, an MRI scan can take anywhere from 10 minutes to over 2 hours faster than a that how fast it go.

MartKj,
November 28, 2010

MRI is a very safe procedure like , however  one  must take proper precautions to thoroughly screen each participant.

NhardingP,
November 28, 2010

This thing is really safe. One of the advantages of MRI is the absence of exposure to radiation.

backtome,
November 28, 2010

You probably don’t know that the magnetic field of the MRI machine is so intense  that it must be isolated to a very controlled environment. This can be a danger if no precaution is done.

Shire,
November 28, 2010

This article is a good discussion of MR imaging. Those info is useful for us who are going to undergo this test for the very first time.

Tricis,
November 28, 2010

We might not be expose to radiation  . But what are the possible biological effects of magnetic field and radio frequency exposure?

Hilary,
November 28, 2010

Internal (implanted) defibrillator or pacemaker  cannot be scanned and should not enter the MRI scanning area. Remember that guys!

Johan,
November 28, 2010

This is one cool invention. I once ask my doctor to have me tested on it rather than the usual xray.

Jonnoa,
November 28, 2010

I well be undergoing MRI scan this January and this article opens my mind about MRI and  I can sleep knowing I will surely be safe.

Julius,
November 28, 2010

I resume to my  usual activities and normal diet immediately right after my exam. If you were not sedated then you can continue with your  normal life.
